Reuse & Reduce

News for you! We're trying out a new voluntary BYO (bring your own) program for some events. We hope to spur environmentally friendly use of plates and utensils at events such as BBQs, picnics, carcamps, and other social events. Why are we doing this?

You've probably heard the refrain "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". This will be a "reuse" and "reduce" initiative to reduce the amount of trash we generate at events. A house party of 60+ people generates quite a few bags of trash. This will also help to reduce clean-up time and mess for our event hosts.

In addition, instead of being used for one-use items, our membership dollars can go into providing the really good stuff - better food, better games, more sports equipment, etc.

Add to the spirit! You can purchase top-of-the-line high tech camping utensils at REI, or what might be more fun is to collect a funky, mis-matched set from Goodwill. You can include a dinner plate, a cup (for sodas/beer/wine), an insulated mug (coffee/tea/hot chocolate), bowl, and a knife/fork/spoon. Bonus points if you add a cloth napkin to your set!

You can use Sharpies or nail polish to identify your stuff, or get creative with other ways to identify them. Get a mesh bag to carry it around in, and you'll be set for upcoming events such as car camps, pool parties, picnics, and weekends at Foster Lodge!
