San Diego Sierra Club Bicycle Section November 2005 calendar

 

All outings are free of charge and open to public participation unless otherwise noted.

 

November 5 - SATURDAY

LAGUNA TRIANGLE SCENIC RIDE

Difficulty: steep grade(s), social (10-12 mph) pace. This ride, and the next three, are part of the Fall Lodge Weekend (see article on front page), but anyone may ride. We'll ride the entire 45-mi triangle, CCW, beginning with a 12 mi ascent up Sunrise Hwy to the top of Mt Laguna. After picking up a snack at the store we'll continue on to Lake Cuyamaca where, if our timing is right, we'll meet the other groups for lunch. Social-to-moderate pace. Not for beginners. CUYAMACA LAKE & BEYOND

Difficulty: distance 21 to 35 mi, steep grade(s), peppy (12-14 mph) pace. Meet at the Lodge for a ride over to Cuyamaca Lake. We'll dine at the lake before continuing to Pine Valley and hitch a ride with the full triangle riders. Call leader for RESERVATION and start info. Rain cancels. Difficulty: distance 21 to 35 mi, steep grade(s), peppy (12-14 mph) pace. Meet at the Lodge at 10:30 am for a ride over to Cuyamaca Lake. We'll dine at the lake before the big climb back along the same route. Rain cancels. For more information call: Ron Manherz, 858-587-0272.

 

November 6 - SUNDAY

JULIAN LOOP

Difficulty: distance 21 to 35 mi, moderate hills, peppy (12-14 mph) pace. Meet at 10:30 am in Julian center by the museum. We'll enjoy one steep hill and the fall colors along beautiful Wynola Rd. and the Pine Hills area. Then...apple pie anyone? Rain cancels. For more information call: Ron Manherz, 858-587-0272.

 

November 13 - SUNDAY

NORTH COUNTY SUNDAY RIDE

Difficulty: rolling hills. The 1st, 2nd & 5th Sunday of each month, meet at 9 am behind Barnes & Noble Bookstore (NOTE NEW MEETING LOCATION) in the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Ctr at the corner of Del Mar Heights Rd & El Camino Real, 1/2 mi E of I-5. November 13 - SUNDAY

NORTH COUNTY EXPRESS RIDE

Difficulty: moderate hills, brisk (14-16 mph) pace. Meet at 8:30 am behind Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Ctr for this 50-mi ride thru the hills of Rancho Santa Fe and north, with a return along the coast, including a snack stop along the way. November 20 - SUNDAY

MISSION BAY SUNDAY RIDE

Difficulty: rolling hills. On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, join us for the Sunday Ride starting from Mission Bay. Meet at 9 am in the parking lot immediately north of the Mission Bay Visitor Center. Route & leaders vary each week. Come for the social pace of this ride of about 25 mi. November 20 - SUNDAY

OUTBACK EXPRESS

Difficulty: steep grade(s), brisk (14-16 mph) pace. Meet at 9 am near Starbucks in the Rancho San Diego Town & Country shopping center (NW side of CA54/Jamacha Rd @ Willow Glen; Thos Bros 1272-A5) for a scenic 40-mi loop thru San Diego's nearby unspoiled outback. Use a triple crank for the challenging climbs, and bring 2-3 water bottles and $ for a mid-ride snack stop at Lyons Valley Store. Strong cold winds or rain cancels. November 24 - THURSDAY

THANKSGIVING DAY COASTAL RIDE

Difficulty: basically flat, social (10-12 mph) pace. Earn your Turkey Day calories by beginning the day with a 30-mi ride along the coast. Meet at the intersection of North Torrey Pines Rd & Almahurst across from the entrance to Blackhorse. Be ready to depart promptly at 8:30 am. November 25 - FRIDAY

POST-THANKSGIVING ALPINE RIDE

Difficulty: steep grade(s), brisk (14-16 mph) pace. Meet at 8:30 am in the middle parking lot of Presidio Park (across from the museum) for this hardcore, hilly 65-mi ride to the Breadbasket Restaurant in Alpine. SOUTH BAY EXPRESS RIDE

Difficulty: distance over 35 mi, moderate hills, brisk (14-16 mph) pace. Meet at 8:15 am (Note change in meeting time. We will leave promptly at 8:30) at DeAnza Cove for this 50+ mi ride thru the city & south to Imperial Beach. Then up the Silver Strand, with a relaxing Ferry ride back across the bay before going up and over Pt Loma. Alternate route with less mileage an option after the ferry.
