The County Board of Supervisors will be hearing the very important General Plan 2020 issue on Wednesday, January 10, beginning at 9:00 am at the County Administration Building on Pacific Highway. There will be a press conference at 12:30 on the east steps, involving Sierra Club and other environmental groups.
If you care about what happens to the backcountry and our quality of life in our County for the next 20 years, please take time now make a call, or go down there if you can.
THE ISSUE
San Diego's country towns, like Julian and Santa Ysabel, don't blend Together. Rural roads are uncongested and scenic. Open valleys, ancient oaks, and unspoiled ridgelines are in delicate balance with human use. It is a balance under threat.
The County's General Plan, which determines how development will occur, is being revised. The Board of Supervisors initiated a "2020 Update" to chart a new course. We must keep this plan "on course." Unfortunately, developers are mobilizing their forces to send the plan in the opposite they succeed, the beauty of the countryside, and the wildlife dependent upon it, will be lost.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
In order to save San Diego's countryside, we must get our message out to the Board of Supervisors! A vital hearing will be on Wednesday, January 10th.
Please use the contact information below to do the following before January 10th.
1. Please call your supervisor, and say to the receptionist "My name is [ ] and I am a consitutient from [ ] and would like to leave a brief message regarding the 2020 Update. Give us true "smart growth". Please save the countryside from sprawl." You may add thoughts of your own.
2. If you can, please attend the hearing in person. The hearing is 9 am at 1600 Pacific Coast Highway in downtown San Diego on Jan. 10. We will have green paper to identify you as a friend of the countryside. You don't have to speak, but if you choose, brief comments of a minute or so would be helpful.
To write or fax a letter, please refer to the sample letter below. The letter comments on some of the technical issues involved in the Update. Feel free to add your own thoughts on the value of the countryside and what it means to your quality of life. Or, you can simply fax in the sample, after filling in the name of your Supervisor at the top and your own name and address at the bottom. E-mail is less effective.
MANY THANKS. TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE SAN DIEGO'S COUNTRYSIDE.
