COL II (Backpack) Leader Training

October 27 & 28 SATURDAY & SUNDAY (depending on conditions)

In order to lead backpack trips or cross-country dayhikes, leaders are required to take COL II training. COL II training is offered once a year. To sign up for this training, you must meet all 3 criteria:

  • be a COL I with all certifications current;
  • have led at least 4 type I trips including your two evaluations
  • have graduated from WBC or its equivalent.

After the two-day training, trainees must plan, publish, and execute two Type II outings which are evaluated by experienced leaders. At least one of these evaluation outings must be an overnight backpack. Wilderness First Aid training is required before attaining full COL II rank.

Wilderness first aid will be offered the previous weekend. Training will take place in a rural setting and may included an overnight stay, depending on class size and schedule.

For questions please contact the Training Coordinator, Tom Markel at (619) 994-4106. Signup at sdcolsignup@yahoo.com. Please include your Sierra Club number, your mailing address and contact information.
