MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
I've been so busy with important duties lately that Iíve barely shot half a roll of film in the last three months. Photography gives me a spiritual renewal, but it is so difficult to make time for it.
A lot of that has to do with my computer. I am constantly trying to improve my scores in all sorts of "shoot 'em up" games and get through some tough parts of "Zoom-Zoom Race Cars." But, hey, I don't waste my time playing "Solitaire."
I was reading my new Superman Comic when Karl called. "Let's go shooting!"
What are you, crazy? I'm too busy, I said. I've got important reading to do, I have to learn better mouse control in "Shootout at the OK Corral, and I just downloaded a new digital Ferrari for "Zoom-Zoom Race Cars." Jeez, my friends think I have nothing but free time.
I grabbed a beer and a bag of potato chips and popped on the TV to watch a rerun of the Simpsons. Maybe tomorrow Iíll get my camera out. Today, I'm way too busy.
Happy image making,

SAN DIEGO SPOTS FOR SUNSET SHOTS
Steve Cirone: My favorite place to shoot sunsets is at the Ocean Beach Pier in the months of Nov., Dec., and Jan., when we can get clear air with big puffy clouds. I see the sunset as a great background for the silhouette of the pier and the people on it.
For the next issue let me know where you like to go in San Diego County and at what time of year to photograph sunrises. What makes the location worth visiting?
If you have a subject for which you'd like location ideas, please let me know. My address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Let us first say what photography is not. A photograph is not a painting, a poem, a symphony, a dance. It is not just a pretty picture, not an exercise in contortionist techniques and sheer print quality. It is or should be a significant document, a penetrating statement, which can be described in a very simple term - selectivity. -Berenice Abbott, 1951.
