Next Meeting: Friday, January 11 at 7:00 PM Otto Center Auditorium, San Diego Zoo
"The Art of Bird Photography" Presented by Arthur Morris
More than 10,000 of internationally noted photographer Arthur Morris' spectacular images have appeared in books, magazines, advertisements, prestigious calendars, and on websites around the world. Mr. Morris has been a Canon contract photographer since 1995, one of their original Explorers of Light. He has hosted seven episodes of the Canon Photo Safari television show. An exhibit, entitled "On a Wing and a Prayer; The Migratory Birds of the Americas," features 64 of his images and will complete its year-long run at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. in April 2002.
While it is not difficult to simply take pictures of birds, creating artistic images that consistently elicit "oohs" and "aahs" from viewers is another story. Arthur will both show us and tell us how he does just that by taking into account composition, image design, and the quality and direction of natural light. Control of perspective and background are hallmarks of Arthur's style that features tight graphic images of birds set against backdrops of pure color.
Birders and natural history enthusiasts and both photographers and non-photographers will enjoy this "Birds as Art appreciation" course. A selection of Arthur's books, prints, and calendars will be available for purchase before and after the show.
Directions: Facing the Zoo entrance off Park Boulevard, walk left (south) past the Zoo exits to the next open gates. The first building inside these gates is the Otto Center.
Message from the Chair__________
As the new year dawns, I extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved in the smooth running of SCPS.
Today, we are at a crossroads of communication in our club, as The VIEW Finder coordinator retires with this issue. This document is key to keeping us all informed. We need a new volunteer coordinator to receive the articles, assemble them on a page, and have the newsletter printed. Members handle the writing and the coordinator does any editing. The newsletter is mailed with the help of the membership coordinator.
Now is your chance to make a contribution to the club. This is a great way to get the inside scoop.
Let's take on 2002 with new vigor to keep our photography and Photo Section the best.
Steven Cirone

Quote: "Simply look with perceptive eyes at the world about you, and trust to your own reactions and convictions. Ask yourself: "Does this subject move me to feel, think and dream? Can I visualize a print - my own personal statement of what I feel and want to convey - from the subject before me?" --Ansel AdamsÒ
