6PM intro class on XC skiing and snowshoeing. 7PM trip descriptions, 7:15PM program.


Nov. 8-9, Kelso Dunes sand skiing and car camp. Free, old skis, boots and poles are provided.  Mike Fry

Nov. 13, Ski Section Meeting.

Nov. 26-30,  THANKSGIVING AT MAMMOTH, about $250, Rhea Leptich coordinator, Barbara Domurad chef.  4 nights in 2 condos in Mammoth Lakes.  Thanksgiving dinner and all the trimmings included. Transportation not included, car pools encouraged. We will ski if there is snow, hike if there isn't.  Alpine skiers can buy a lift ticket for manmade snow at Mammoth Mountain.  Trip limited to 16.

Thanksgiving snow backpack trip to the Trinity Alps to explore the Canyon Creek Lakes basin, with a possible climb of Thompson Peak (8994'), if conditions permit. Where there's not enough snow to ski, we'll hike.  Metal-edged skis and avy gear required. Limited to 8. Contact leader for sign-up.

Dec. 31, 2008 - Jan 4, 2009    NEW YEARS BEAR VALLEY BUS TRIP  WED-SUN    All levels

Come join us to bring in the new year at Bear Valley where we will be staying in condos at the ski area and enjoying 3 full days of cross country skiing, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing.  Bear Valley is located in the Sierras between Yosemite and Tahoe in Alpine County.  The area has an extensive track system, a downhill resort, and back country trails. We will have beginner and intermediate trips each day: instruction is included.  We will celebrate the New Year with a progressive dinner which has been a success in previous years.  Cost for the trip is approximately $385 which includes transportation, lodging.  Bus leaves at 8:30am on Dec. 31 to try to beat the traffic.  To reserve a place on the trip, send a $35 non-refundable deposit and 3 SASE’s OR your e-mail address to Alice Fichandler, 4520 Greene St., San Diego, CA 92107. 

Jan 8, Ski Section Meeting

FEB 5-9, 25th ANNUAL YOSEMITE WINTER BUS TRIP.  This winter wonderland getaway trip is for all levels of skiers as well as non-skiers.  Snowshoers are welcome.  In addition to its spectacular landscape, Yosemite offers many ways to spend your time including photography, nature walks, moonlit hikes, snow shoeing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, brunch at the famous Ahwahnee Hotel, museums, ice skating, shopping and much more.  The trip cost includes bus transportation, first night stay in Oakhurst, three nights at The Yosemite Lodge, and ski instruction. Per person cost is $477 (two per room), $404 (3 per room), or $367 (4 per room) with two beds per room.  Meals and ski rentals are not included.  We will depart on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and return on Monday at around 9:00 p.m.  Send a $50 deposit (payable to Sierra Club) and your address, phone number, and email address (or 3 SASE) to Monique Alkemade, 11309 Carmel Creek Road, San Diego, CA, 92130.  Call Monique Alkemade 858-509-9203 with any questions.  We need your deposit by Dec. 15 in order to reserve your rooms.

Feb 12, Ski Section Meeting

Feb 19-22 The Pear Lake trip has been cancelled.

Feb 28-Mar 5, GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, ISAAK WALTON INN.  $464 for 3 nights at Isaak Walton Inn.  Airfare, trainfare and meals not included. Mar 12, Ski Section Meeting

Mar 20-22, WBC SNOW CAMP,   Skiing, snowshoeing, and camping in the snow.  Not a ski section outing, but most of our leaders are there.  Sign up for WBC at  Course starts in late January.

Mar 26-30, CLAIR TAPPAAN LODGE. Historic Sierra Club lodge at Donner Pass.  All levels welcome. Lessons and rentals extra. Easy touring, 3 downhill resorts, major track skiing, and backcountry huts.  Lodging, and meals at CTL about $200, you buy your own airline ticket to Reno.  Rental cars shared.  Coordinator: Patty Dahl 619-222-1215. Trip limited to 12.

Apr 9, Ski Section Planning Meeting and Party.

Refund Policy: Note that sickness or injury does not play a part in refunds. You may purchase travel insurance from any travel agent. Travel insurance usually covers sickness, injury, family emergencies, lost luggage etc.

Full Refund: 1. We cancel the trip or 2. The leader determines you shouldn't be on the trip or 3. You find your own replacement and they reimburse you.

Partial Refund: 1. We find your replacement and keep only your deposit or 2. We can't replace you, but we get a refund (or are not charged) by our providers because of your absence. You get back whatever we get back.
