Blue Sky TO Ramona

The varied terrain of conditioning
hike begins in the flat, shady woods of the Blue Sky Ecological Preserve and
transitions to switchbacks up to the base of Ramona Dam. Bring two quarts of
water, sunscreen and other essentials. Wear lug-soled shoes.
From Escondido I 15 south exit Rancho Bernado
Drive and follow signage toward Lake Poway. The road transitions into Espola
and the Preserve will be on the East Side (Before Lake Poway). Meet at
Blue Sky parking area for an 8:00 departure.

DALEY RANCH CONDITIONING HIKE

We will hike up the Boulder Loop
past some amazing rock formations and return to the ranch house area via the
Crest trail which has some awesome vistas of the hills and mountains surrounding
the ranch. A quick break and then follow East Ridge overlooking the riparian
area of Middle Pond and finish with views of Lake Dixon as we descend to our
starting point. Bring 2 quarts of water, snack, sunscreen, hat and lug soled
shoes. Take I-15 to El Norte Pkwy exit (north Escondido) 3 miles east to Dixon
Lake sign (La Honda Dr.) turn left. Park at the top of the hill in the dirt lot
on the left.

VALLEY CENTER HELL
HOLE CANYON PRESERVE CONDITIONING HIKE

Pristine wilderness experience... Oak
woodland, riparian habitat, mountain view tops and sweeping panoramas. Come hike
Hell Hole Canyon in nearby Valley Center. Bring minimum 2 quarts water, sturdy
boots, and snack or lunch. Meet at Bates Nuts farm at 0830 where we will caravan
to staging area near trailhead 3 miles away. Take I-15 to Valley Pkwy exit.
Travel East toward Valley Center, (about 9 miles). From Valley Pkwy, turn right
on Woods Valley RD. Bates Nut farm is approx 3 miles on left.

EVALUATION HIKE
This is a timed self-evaluation hike to give WBC
students knowledge of their physical fitness and endurance to compare with
scheduled class outings and fellow students. All students are required to
attend and hike the mountain. All student times will be kept confidential.

some hiking miles while enjoying the diverse habitats and distinct ecotones that
make up Daley Ranch. We will have a mixed hike covering well established trail
roads as well as some interesting foot trails, traverse several ridgelines and
see awesome vistas of the hills and mountains surrounding the ranch. Bring 2
quarts of water, snack, sunscreen, hat and lug-soled shoes. Take I-15 to El
Norte Pkwy exit (north Escondido) 3 miles east to Dixon Lake sign (La Honda Dr.)
turn left. Park at the top of the hill in the dirt lot on the left.

ELFIN FOREST RECREATIONAL RESERVE CONDITIONING HIKE

Hike to Lake Hodges Overlook from the
trailhead on Harmony Grove Road. We will identify plant life and diverse
habitats along the Botanical Trail, traverse the Way up Trail to the ridge
maintenance road and circumvent the new water reservoir to the south side of the
ridge overlooking Lake Hodges. Here we will take a short break and then return
via the Way up Trail. Meet in the overflow parking lot approx. mile 6 on
Harmony Grove Road (east of the main entrance).

BLUE SKY- LAKE POWAY LOOP

Beginning on the Blue Sky trail we
will follow the trail to the Poway Lake and hike along the eastside of the lake
overlooking some interesting riparian and raptor habitats. The view of the lake
and dam from this vantage are great. The return to Blue Sky will be around the
opposite side of Poway Lake and dam. We will meet in Poway at the Blue Sky
Reserve parking lot on Espola Road. Bring 2
quarts of water, snack, sunscreen, hat and lug-soled shoes.
