The mission of the Sierra Club is:
To explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth;
To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment;
To use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.
We may come to San Diego for different reasons, but we stay for the same: great people, perfect weather and a myriad of cultural and outdoor experiences.
The Sierra Young Adults, San Diego Chapter of the Sierra Club brings together adults in their 20s and 30s who have a love of the outdoors and a desire to explore, enjoy and protect all that San Diego has to offer. Members enjoy fun outdoor excursions with certified guides/instructors, including hikes, camping trips, skiing and snowboarding, surfing, whale watching, biking, beach volleyball, and much more. Also offered are monthly social mixers at bars and restaurants through the city, free nature conservation classes and workshops, and organized volunteer activities.
So whether you are looking to discover more of San Diego's gems, meet fun and outgoing people in the community, or just get off your couch and have a good time, the Sierra Young Adults, San Diego Chapter welcomes you.

Leadership

What drew you to join the Sierra Young Adults?
About 3 months ago, I was feeling unfulfilled with my activities. I enjoyed playing beach volleyball and softball with my friends, but I felt a big part of me wasn’t applying myself to my true passion - conservation and enjoying hiking on a regular basis. I would start little hiking groups sporadically, and did a few beach clean-ups, but there wasn’t anything organized in San Diego that specifically spoke to all of my interests (exploring , enjoying and protecting the planet). I wanted to meet people that had the same passion that I did. Luckily, I had met a few within the past 2 years of living in San Diego, and most of them are now the Executive Board for the Sierra Young Adults.
Three months ago, we didn’t exist. My Mom brought me to a Sierra Club meeting and I told them that we could really do something great with a group for people in their 20s and 30s. Within a month of creating our Sierra Young Adults Executive Board and Facebook page, we have grown to over 100 people and are still growing today.
My goal is to carry out the mission of the Sierra Club as a community in San Diego, while pairing all that we do with fun, social events.

What drew you to join the Sierra Young Adults?
I have always loved being outdoors and have become increasingly interested in doing my part to help conserve our natural resources. While I would often organize impromptu hikes, bike rides or surf sessions, I always wished there was a group that focused on these things. The Sierra Young Adults is a great way to meet people and great encouragement to get outside and explore our city.
Where are your favorite outdoor spots in San Diego?
I love the pocket beaches in North County – they are always empty and so peaceful! I also love Balboa Park, Torrey Pines, and there are some amazing waterfalls in Julien.

What drew you to join the Sierra Young Adults?
I wanted to be involved with Sierra Young Adults because of its mission, the opportunity to meet other people with the same interest and the events that they are involved with, such as hiking, kayaking and assisting with the Inner City Outings.
What is a favorite outdoor experience or memory you have?
My best outdoor experience occurred a couple of years ago when I camped out on Pismo beach and enjoying atv quad riding, hanging around a camp fire and sleeping under the stars.
Where are your favorite outdoor spots in San Diego?
Some of my favorite outdoor spots are Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, Cowles Mountain and Coronado Beach.
What drew you to join the Sierra Young Adults?
My Grandfather was a large supporter of Coast Keepers and the Sierra Club. Every time I came to visit, we would end up going to some sort of event to save the Bolsa Chica in Huntington Beach. When presented with the opportunity to help support the Sierra Club, I was very happy to do so. Our group brings a variety of different groups of people together for an awesome cause. I am excited to be able to help in even the smallest of ways.
